Description
Expand Your Liquid Culture with Dextrose and Light Malt Extract (DLME)
This product combines Corn Dextrose and Light Malt Extract, offering a superior recipe for expanding your liquid cultures compared to using just Honey, Karo, or Glucose Syrup.
Why Use Light Malt Extract: Light Malt Extract aids in faster colonization when inoculating grain spawn because the mycelium is already accustomed to the sugar from grain (in this case, barley). Similarly, when used in Malt Extract Agar Plates (MEA), it accelerates colonization as the mycelium recognizes the sugar.
Why Use Dextrose: Dextrose provides not only sugars but also a variety of essential minerals, vitamins, and salts that support the growth of mushroom mycelium. It creates a clear liquid culture, which simplifies the detection of any contamination.

Instructions for Use:
- Sterilization: Sterilize the mix in an Autoclave at 15psi for 20 minutes or Microwave for 2 minutes, repeating 3 times. Ensure a Marble or Stirrer is inside the jar before sterilization.
- Cooling: After sterilization, allow the jar to cool to room temperature.
- Inoculation: Inoculate the jar with a clean liquid culture and store it in a dark space for 1-2 weeks to allow complete colonization.
- Stirring: Use a magnetic stirrer for 5 minutes or manually swirl with a marble 5-10 times daily to break up the mycelium.
Caution: Take care not to break the glass mason jars when swirling with marble. Note that some sedimentation at the bottom of the jar after sterilization is normal.
Use: This liquid culture mix is versatile for various cultivation techniques. Once prepared, you may inject the liquid culture into sterilized grain jars/bags, agar Petri dishes, or another jar containing LC mix to expand your culture. For aggressive strains like Oysters and Reishi, it can also be used to directly colonize substrates.
