Uses Across Various Fields:
- Suitable for humans, gardening, mycology, livestock, as well as bird and dog supplements. This product is composed solely of white eggshell, with no additives, ensuring it is food grade and completely safe for human consumption.
Role in Mushroom Cultivation:
- Acts as a pH buffer for mushroom substrate, maintaining a stable pH as the mushroom grows. As mycelium expands, it releases acidic compounds that help in digesting the substrate media. These acids could significantly alter the pH of the substrate, potentially hindering mushroom fruiting. Calcium carbonate effectively prevents the substrate from becoming overly acidic, thus supporting optimal mycelium fruit production. The recommended method involves soaking, boiling, and drying your grains, then adding Calcium Carbonate. Ensure thorough mixing before sterilization.
Usage Recommendation:
- Add 5% of Calcium Carbonate relative to the total weight of your grain spawn.
Important Note:
- This ‘lime’ form of Calcium Carbonate is not suitable for pasteurization. For pasteurization purposes, refer to our listing for Calcium Hydroxide Ca(OH)2.
